There are miles of marked walking and cycling routes starting from the town and leading to the mountain pastures or along the Enns river. If you are feeling energetic, then the views from the top of the Lackenkogel mountain overlooking Altenmarkt are breathtaking. Some ski lifts operate in the summer to give walker's access to higher mountain paths and the beautiful mountain huts. Altenmarkt is at the heart of the Sportwelt Amadé region and the local ski area living Altenmarkt to Radstadt is
just outside the village. This
Altenmarkt is easy accessible by road from Salzburg or Munich airports. There is also a good network of local transport, the Austrian trains and buses are always on time!

The Sportwelt Amadé region
is about 50 minutes drive south of Salzburg. The market town of 
cycling, golf, tennis and riding
trails, and much more. And in winter Altenmarkt, Radstadt and its neighbouring alpine village Zauchensee at 1,350m
are all part of the famous Ski Amadé Region, that boasts 5 areas, 276 ski lifts and 860 km of ski slopes all
available to you on one ski pass! - and that takes some beating!
The area provides an ideal base
for all types of summer and winter holidays, for individuals and families and it is within the close proximity of
Salzburg, the 'City of Mozart'.
The medieval town of Radstadt is
known as the town of the wheel; 'Rad' being the German word for wheel. The town is surrounded by a wall with a tower
(a 'turm' in German) at each corner.

reached by a free ski bus, which also takes skiers to the ski village of Zauchensee, higher up the valley, every 20
minutes. Zauchensee was recently voted as having the 4th most modern Ski lift system in Europe.
The Altenmarkt area lies at an
altitude 856 metres rising to 1677 metres and has a much envied snow record with excellent snowmaking facilities.
The pistes are varied and interesting with tree-lined runs down to Radstadt. This area is very popular with local
families as it suits skiers of all abilities. Zauchensee, where many national teams train in early winter, lies at
1350 metres rising to 2240 metres. The skiing here is sensational, from easy blue runs to challenging
black runs and some superb off-piste skiing. Cross-country skiing in the Enns Valley area is also
excellent.
